Danna stood before her greatest achievement, or more like a guilty penance. A night clinic,
haven for all night-souls human and non-human. If she hadn’t been changed would any of this
be possible? She’d not lived as a righteous human, but more self-righteous even in her poverty
and infirmity. Yet, part of her still missed it and regretted not living life more fully.

Zack, the head administrator, rushed toward Danna as she entered the clinic. “Doc we have a
problem. There seems to be a bit of an anemia epidemic. We have five street girls and seven
homeless who have confirmed symptoms. The waiting room is filling with very pale people
showing similar symptoms.”

Halloween season was dangerous for humans. For all those noticed and treated there where
many who disappeared completely unnoticed.

“See what the blood supply is and find more. Treat kids, the elderly and anyone on record with
an immune disorder first.”  She loved the sense of accomplishment this place gave her. She felt
cleansed and it filled a void she had deep down for the loss of her mortality.

Zack looked really concerned, “Some of them look really sick. We may need to transfer them to
a hospital.”

“I’ll talk to the ambulance guys and make sure they’re ready after I look at the patients’ charts.
By the way, have we found a team to start working the day shift?”

“A skeleton crew is ready to begin training. We may call some of them in tomorrow night.”
